Step 1: Preview Your Home

Before you do anything, you may want to spend some time reflecting about why you want to sell your home.  How motivated are you?  If you aren't motivated, you may not be ready.  Defining your purpose for selling your home will help you to communicate your goals with your real estate broker so you stay on track. 


When you're ready, choose a great real estate broker, like John P. A broker certified in home valuation will make a detailed evaluation of the real estate market in relation to the value of your neighborhood, your street, and the exterior and interior of your home.  Your agent should be asking you a lot of questions during this home visit and may ask your permission to take photographs and video for further study.  Tell your broker everything you can think of about your home, its history in your care, and what you're hoping to achieve in selling it.

Do not be afraid to interview multiple brokers to compete for your representation.  While most people pick the first agent they meet, you have the right to meet more than one before committing to either of them.  


Beware of agents who discount their commission.  While not all cases are the same, a broker who discounts their commission will likely discount their service to you for the sake of adding numbers to their yearly sales total.  You want an agent who is dedicated to you and will save more than enough of your time and finances to cover their commission.
